Sick, Personal, and Funeral Days Minimize

SICK and PERSONAL DAYS: Each teacher is permitted ten (10) days sick leave per year, which is cumulative. By contract, teachers are permitted three (3) personal days which convert to sick days if they are not used. Talk to a faculty rep or an officer if you have any questions about how to request personal or sick days.

-Per an April 2010 MOU, beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, personal days will carry over to a total of 5 at any one time. This means that beginning the 2011-2012 school year, bargaining unit members can use up to 5 personal days (consecutively or not).

-Per a June 2011 MOU, staff may be granted, with permission from their building principal, up to 2 compensatory personal days if they are transferred from one school building to another or must move from one classroom to another within a school building. They are expected to use these days to pack and unpack their new rooms to prepare for their new assignment, and to work during the hours the buildings are normally open during the summer.

FUNERAL DAYS: Three (3) days are allowed for death in the immediate family and are not considered part of sick leave. Immediate family (as defined by School Code) includes father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, wife/husband, parent-in-law, or near relative or resides in the same household.

-Whenever an employee is absent due to the death of a near relative, there shall be no deduction in salary for the day of the funeral. Near relative is defined (by the School Code) as first cousin, grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law.

-If you serve as a pallbearer at a funeral, the district will grant you a funeral day with pay, even if the person who died is not a near or immediate relative. Contact an Association officer if you have questions.

-Call in for a substitute as soon as you know you will be absent (sick, professional, etc...).  During the school day, you may contact Beth Lombardi personally at ext. 3230.  Do not leave a voice mail at ext. 3230.  Outside of the school day, leave a message on the district "code-a-phone."
